Game time for pro golfers

THE Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association are striving to ensure local professionals get as much game time as possible ahead of next week’s Zimbabwe Open.

Local professionals, who have so far played in three championship tournaments this year, are sweating it out in the inaugural Nasho Kamungeremu Memorial Golf Tournament at Chapman.

Steven Fereirra had an overnight lead yesterday.

Ferreira is the ZPGA order of merit leader and a win today will enhance his chances of doing well at the Zimbabwe Open.

“It was a good round where I played solid golf and at Chapman I played well so I am looking forward to tomorrow’s (today) round.

“There is great competition and the players are doing their best as we prepare for the big one, the Zimbabwe Open,” said Ferreira.

He will have to contend with the likes of Nyasha Muyambo, who was on four-under 68, after yesterday’s opening round.

The Chapman professional had a good round in which he played solid golf throughout and may win his first championship if he keeps focused.

Trainos Muradzikwa has also been playing well.

Kamungeremu passed away in 2007 after he began his golfing career at school in 1984 and, in 1988, he was the first black to win the Zimbabwe Junior stroke-play.

He died of heart attack at the age of 34 on August 3, 2007, at the Avenues Clinic.
