TWO members of a gang, which stole 151 chickens, have been arrested.

The other member is on the run.

Amos Mhotepote and Ruth Jawi were arrested while Ruth’s husband, James Phiri, is on the run.

They are accused of stealing 151 chicken from Vimbai Muchuwe.

James was reported to have raided Vimbai’s fowl run and stole the chickens.

He engaged Amos for the transportation of the chickens from Goodhope to his Dzivarasekwa house where Ruth sold them at US$3 each.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said 38 chickens were recovered following a tip off.

“Police arrested two suspects in connection with stock theft.

“One of the suspects is on the run and we are appealing for information that may lead to his arrest.

“Circumstances were that the complainant checked her fowl run with 350 birds and left everything intact before she retired to bed.

“The following morning, she noticed her fowl run fence had been cut and she went to check inside the fowl run and she noticed various heads of her birds on the floor.

“The complainant then started physical counting of her broilers and she discovered that 151 birds were missing from her fowl run.

“One of the accused connived with the other accused to meet along Lomagundi Road and then transported the stolen birds in a silver Toyota Sienta, registration (AFN 8969).

“Police from ZRP Dzivarasekwa received an anonymous call to the effect that there were some people gathered buying suspected stolen chickens, leading to the arrest. The total value of the stolen stock is US$900 and 38 chickens, which included 15 dressed and 23 undressed valued at US$228, were recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
