A HARARE man will spend the next five years behind bars after he was nabbed in Beitbridge trying to send a stash of dagga to the capital.

Jaison Makwarimba (38) of Epworth was convicted at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court for dealing in dangerous drugs. Six months of his sentence were suspended.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Makwarimba was busted on June 24, 2025, at the Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus while attempting to send 7.3kg of dagga with a street value of US$731 to Harare.

“The offender tried to flee, abandoning his passport and the drugs, but was later arrested,” read an NPAZ statement.
The authority warned that drug trafficking is a serious crime with devastating effects.

“Drug trafficking is a serious crime that destroys lives and will not be tolerated,” said the NPAZ.
Makwarimba will serve four and a half years behind bars.
