A SWEET seller wasn’t so sweet after all — he’s now behind bars for turning innocent chocolates into dangerous drug traps for the youth!
Norman Chirume (36) of Mufakose in Harare, thought he had found a clever hustle by selling dagga-laced chocolates, but detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare brought his high-flying business to a crashing end.
Following a tip-off, police raided Chirume’s home on 16 January 2025 and uncovered a full-blown drug factory!
They recovered:
• 270 Ganja chocolates
• 75 nuggets in brown trays
• Chocolate bars, trays, aluminium foil
• Loose dagga
Preliminary tests confirmed the sweets were loaded with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — the psychoactive chemical in cannabis.
With a total street value of ZIG$5 175, Chirume’s stash was all presented in court as hard-hitting evidence. He was convicted and sentenced to 3 months in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession and distribution of dangerous drugs.
Authorities have once again sounded the alarm, warning the public — especially parents and schools — about the growing threat of drug-laced edibles targeting young people.
Kids become junkies through the products and later become customers for drug dealers as they can’t live without the drugs, once they get hooked.
