TWO Chiredzi men learned the hard way that crime doesn’t pay after they were slapped with 9-year jail terms each for stealing a herd of 12 cattle!
Eliot Hwende (48) and Clatos Masunga aka Raymond Chiza (24) teamed up with a third suspect, Luckson Ndunduma (still on the run), and raided Almos Manyevere’s kraal at Rushangarumwe Village, Buffalo Range, on 26 March 2025.
The daring thieves broke into the cattle pen under the cover of darkness and drove the animals away for quick disposal.
They sold off five bovines and stashed the remaining seven cattle in Hwende’s own pen — but their greed cost them dearly.
When Manyevere discovered his kraal empty the next morning, he wasted no time filing a report at ZRP Chiredzi.
Swift police action led to the full recovery of all 12 cattle and the dramatic arrest of the two stock thieves.
The Chiredzi Magistrates’ court, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), didn’t go easy on them — handing each a 9-year stretch behind bars for the crime that continues to cripple rural communities.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for Ndunduma, urging anyone with information to come forward.
