A 19-year-old gardener has been jailed for 12 years after stealing US$135 000 in cash from his employer’s house in Ruwa last month.
Darlington Simango Zimba was sentenced on October 2 after pleading guilty to unlawful entry and theft under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9:23).
Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said Zimba and his accomplices took advantage of the complainant’s absence to break into her property and steal the cash.
The theft occurred on September 19 while the complainant was away on a business trip.
She discovered the money was missing when she returned home on September 21 and reported the matter to the police.
“His conviction follows an unlawful entry and theft case which occurred on 19 September 2026 in Ruwa, where he and his accomplices took advantage of the complainant’s absence to steal US$135 000,” Insp Muteweri said.
Police investigations subsequently led to Zimba’s arrest and prosecution.
Police are still pursuing his alleged accomplice, David Simango Zimba, who remains at large.
Insp Muteweri appealed to the public with information that could assist in his arrest to report to their nearest police station, the Police General Headquarters WhatsApp number 0712 800 197 or the national Complaints Desk on 0242 703631.
