THE Operation Garikai Housing project in Masvingo has received a major boost as the country’s oldest town has embarked on a US$2,1 million sewer reticulation upgrade that will cater for the over 200 houses under the scheme.Masvingo City Council recently awarded Mutual Construction a contract to lay a sewer pipeline that will cater for the Operation Garikai houses and others that are being developed in the Victoria Ranch estate, west of the city.
Masvingo town clerk, Mr Adolph Gusha yesterday said council wanted to make sure that Operation Garikai houses were connected into the city’s sewer system.
Mr Gusha said Masvingo city council secured a US$2,1 million loan from the National Social Security Authority to lay the sewer pipeline that will also benefit over 2 000 other new housing units currently under construction.
“We are happy that we managed to secure US$2,1 million from NSSA that we are using for the sewer pipeline that will link the Operation Garikai houses into the city’s sewer system and we have already awarded the contract to Mutual Construction which has already hit the ground running,’’ he said.
