ZIMBABWE Emerging side coach, Trevor Garwe is happy with his team’s performance, as they seek to secure a place in the final of the Kwibuka Women’s T20I tournament, with a win against Rwanda today.
After round robin matches, which are expected to end today, a win for Zimbabwe against the hosts today will see the team book a place in the final against Uganda.
Garwe insists that winning the tournament is not the top priority of his charges.
“The performance of our team so far has been really good and going into the deep end of the tournament, like we said, this tournament is about giving exposure to the players, something that we are still doing.
“If we can do single things right, and not focus on the end result as a team, we will win the cup but the main focus is doing the right things and we are not worried about the main result,” said Garwe.
With the majority of players in the team being part of the national Under-19 side, Garwe is happy with the progress that the team has shown ahead of the preparations for the 2025 U-19 World Cup.
“We are really concerned about doing things right.
“We have been going through our processes and doing all the basics right and I am happy that the results have been positive for us.
“Having some winning performances from Kelis Ndlovu, Beloved Biza, Christine Mutasa, Runyaro Pasipanodya, that is something big for us moving forward and a good thing for us as we prepare for the U-19 World Cup.”
The opening pair of Ndhlovu and Biza have had partnerships of 376 runs in six innings,
Garwe believes the team now needs to work on their fielding and bowling.
“The match awareness is something that we have really improved on but we are still looking for improvements in our bowling and fielding.
