Zimbabwe Emerging side coach, Trevor Garwe is happy with his team’s performance as they seek to secure a place in the final of the Kwibuka Women’s T20I tournament with a win against Rwanda today.
After round-robin matches that are expected to end today, a win for Zimbabwe against hosts will see the team book a place in the final against Uganda.
Garwe insists that winning the tournament is not the top priority of his charges.
“The performance of our team so far has been really good, and going into the deep end of the tournament. It is about giving exposure to the players, something that we are still doing.
“If we can do single things right and not focus on the result as team, we will win the cup. The main focus is doing the right and we are not worried about the main result,” said Garwe.
With the majority of players in the team being part of the national Under-19, Garwe is happy with the progress that the team has achieved as they prepare for the 2025 U-19 World Cup.
“We are concerned about doing things right.
“We have been going through our process and doing all the basics right and I am happy that the results have been positive for us.
“Having some winning performances from Kelis Ndlovhu, Beloved Biza, Christine Mutasa and Runyaro Pasipanodya, that is something big for us moving forward, and good for us as we prepare for the U-19 World Cup,” said the Zimbabwe Emerging side coach.
The opening pair of Ndhlovu and Biza has made a partnership of 376 runs in six innings, and Garwe believes the team now needs to work on fielding and bowling.
“The match awareness is something that we have improved on but we are still looking for improvements in our bowling and fielding. We have been having some winning performances from Kelis Ndlovhu, Beloved Biza, Christine Mutasa, Runyaro Pasipanodya and that is something big for us moving forward.”
