ZIMBABWE Cricket have started the process of appointing Gary Brent’s successor as Lady Chevrons coach.
Brent has now left his position as head coach after serving a three-month notice period to pursue a career in Australia.
He formally resigned in October last year, citing his desire to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with his family.
The former Zimbabwe international cricketer, aged 47, had been at the helm of the national women’s side since March 2022.
His assistant, Trevor Garwe, will temporarily take charge of the team while Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is finalising the appointment of Brent’s successor.
During his tenure, Zimbabwe Women came close to making it to the last edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup but agonisingly fell just short in the decisive qualifying match against Ireland Women in 2022 and he leaves soon after leading the side to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 to be staged in the United Arab Emirates.
Commenting on Brent’s departure, ZC managing director Givemore Makoni said:
“Gary is leaving on a high, with our women’s team having conquered Africa to book their place at the T20 World Cup global qualifier tournament and we are grateful for his dedication and hard work throughout his time with us. “We wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
