Gary Ballance: The Zimbabwe Batter Announces Shock Retirement. Less than a year after making his debut in Zimbabwe, this batsman has called time on his professional cricket career
Former England international Gary Ballance, who recently returned to play for his native Zimbabwe, announced his retirement from professional cricket on Wednesday.

Ballance had signed a two-year deal with Zimbabwe Cricket at the end of 2022 and has played five ODIs, one T20I, and one Test since his return.

But the 33-year-old announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket in a statement released by the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

“After much thought, I have decided to retire from all forms of professional cricket with immediate effect,” the 33-year-old said in the statement.

He became eligible to play for Zimbabwe in 2021 and revealed in December 2022. That he had made himself available to play for Zimbabwe. The batsman revealed his decision to switch national teams at the time, saying, “The opportunity to represent Zimbabwe has given me a new passion and enthusiasm for the game.” The left-handed batsman became the second player after Kepler Wessels to score a Test century for two different countries. When he scored his only Test century for Zimbabwe earlier this year.

He missed the second Test of the series with a migraine headache:-

Ballance said, “I have been fortunate to have had some memorable moments in cricket. Winning the County Championship with Yorkshire and having the honor of representing England and Zimbabwe.”

“I would like to thank all my clubs, coaches, support staff, and teammates. And supporters for their guidance and encouragement over my career, it has been a privilege.

“Now it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in my life.” — BabaCric –
