Mbada Holdings rescued the Warriors in their failed bid to qualify for next year’s African Cup of Nations finals, providing the charter flight and other incentives for the team.
“If you look into today’s world, most countries are being recognised through sport and it’s high time we put our country on the world map as far as sport is concerned,” said Gasho.
“The corporate world in other countries are contributing big time in sport and it’s a different case in our country where we have to wait for only one company to do everything.
“In as much as the Government should chip in supporting our sport, they also have other burdens to take care of and corporate world should take the front role in sponsoring our sport,” added Gasho.
Gasho said his heart bleeds when he thinks of the current state of our sport in the country and has called for proper structures in the development of sport.
“I have always followed the Warriors through and through and it pains to watch them losing especially at that last hurdle.
“We might blame the coaches for the failure but it’s not good to wait for the last minute to motivate players . . .
There has to be proper structures from grassroots not only in football but other disciplines should do the same.
“In other countries like South Africa, companies especially those who deal directly with the public give back to the community by sponsoring sport. Soccer is one sport that brings people together and it will be wise especially for companies in the communication industry to sponsor the game,” said Gasho.
