GATEWAY High School is set to host the second edition of Olympiad Academy annual schools’ Chess Championship on July 29.

The tournament will offer tutorials and individual coaching clinics to primary and high school students.

The academy is in partnership with the Zimbabwe Chess Federation.

After successfully hosting the inaugural Chess Championship last year with a record 250 participants from schools within Harare, the organising secretary Taona Magede said this year’s championship is expected to grow as it will incorporate schools from all provinces.

“We are looking forward to hosting the second edition of the annual Schools’ Chess Championship which will have Under-8; 10 and 12 age groups.

“The championship is part of Olympiad Academy’s mission to “Educate the Future” by bringing forth intellectuals amongst our youth, from all parts of the country to network through the chess board.

“The Championship also aligns with the ZCF’s vision to improve and facilitate the game on a nationwide scale through opportunities for Zimbabwe’s young Chess talent to be exposed to this level of chess from a young age, and ultimately recognise the young proteges,” said Magede.

Winners of the Championship in all categories will walk away with hampers and floating trophies as the academy try to further open doors for future Chess Grandmasters in the country.
