SUPERSPORT United coach, Gavin Hunt, has commended developmental coach, Clemence “Coach Cle” Mabidi for organising anti-drug tournaments set for his hometown, Mvuma, from Friday to Sunday.
Mabidi, who is based in South Africa, is battling to kick out drug abuse in his hometown of Mvuma by introducing a football tournament, which will run under the theme ‘SAY NO TO DRUGS.’
Girls will also take part in an eight-team netball tournament at the same event, which is being sponsored by Mabidi.
At least 12 teams are going to battle for the biggest prize in the boys’ competition.
Mabidi is the owner of Messina United.
“I really appreciate this initiative, drug abuse is emerging as a serious problem everywhere. Young boys are struggling to fight this disease.
“It’s important to have people like Mabidi in our communities; they are doing an unbelievable job to get these boys to play football.
“I hope these children will accept this chance with both hands and, if my schedule is clear, it’s also my wish to come and support this event,” said Hunt.
Former Highlanders and Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Elroy Akby, Japhet Muparutsa and Thabo Munyalo also shared the same sentiments.
Mabidi is also getting financial support from his brother Tinashe.
“It’s sad that we are losing promising talent every day because of different types of drugs.
“As concerned citizens, it’s high time we start helping these youngsters by coming up with different ideas to keep them busy.
“It’s never too late and, if we can come together, we can win this battle,” said Mabidi.
Mvuma is also the hometown of former Dynamos forwards Tauya Murewa and Rodrick Mutuma.
