GD6 GONE IN A FLASH: Zimra officer vehicle snatched at fuel station

Sikhumbuzo Moyo – Check Point Desk

A DARING daylight heist left a senior Zimra investigations officer stranded at a Bulawayo service station after carjackers pounced on his Toyota GD6, which he had left idling with valuables inside.
The incident happened on Saturday when the officer stopped to refuel and was told by a female attendant that the swipe machine was inside the shop.

“He left the vehicle running, keys in the ignition, with his wallet containing US$1 000 and two cellphones inside,” said a police source.
In a movie-style hit, three suspects in a Honda Fit circled the forecourt before spotting their chance.

“They drove around the station three times, clearly monitoring the situation. Once they confirmed the car was unattended, they abandoned their Honda Fit, jumped into the GD6 and sped off,” the source added.

The stunned officer returned from the shop to find nothing but tyre marks and an empty bay where his prized double cab had been moments earlier.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, said investigations were underway.

“Further details will be released in due course,” she said.
Police have since urged motorists never to leave vehicles idling and unattended, warning that carjackers are prowling service stations.
