AFTER doing well to finish among the top four in the last two seasons, Manica Diamonds have gone about rejuvenating their squad and have set their sights on the Premier Soccer League championship title.
The arrivals of the pair of Ghanaian strikers, Emmanuel Paga and winger Issa Sadiki from Dynamos, and the duo of Ransom Pavari and Lawrence Mhlanga from FC Platinum have given the Gems Boys executive committee reason to believe that their team could go over the line in 2025.
Manica Diamonds chairman Masimba Chihowa told Zimpapers Sports Hub that his club will not be leaving anything to chance as they upscale their preparations.
The Gem Boys have also endured a mixture of departures and new signings, with players such as Liberty Chakoroma, Trevor Mavhunga, Kelvin Gwao, Pasca Manhanga, and Michael Tapera leaving Manica Diamonds.
But Chihowa expressed confidence that the included players will quickly settle and bring value to Manica Diamonds.
“We have done well in terms of preparations ahead of the new season,” Chihowa said.
“We managed to bring in players who cover all the gaps created by those who left.
“Our pre-season has been going well, and the club had a training camp in Beitbridge to ensure we are fully prepared.”
Chihowa praised the quality of the new signings, describing them as “great players with high quality.”
He also hinted that the club is not done with their transfer dealings, adding that two more players could be added to coach Jairos Tapera’s squad.
Chihowa, a former referee, underscored the need for Manica Diamonds to improve on their performance this season.
“The target is to do better.”
Manica Diamonds have historically struggled with slow starts to their campaigns, but Chihowa believes their technical department is working diligently to address their shortcomings.
“We are working hard to improve how we start the season. Chihowa also had a message for the club’s loyal supporters, promising an exciting season ahead.
“Our fans should expect a great season,” an optimistic Chihowa said.
