ZIMBABWEAN student, Mike Lungu, who was in detention in Zambia for overstaying his visa, has been released after Good Samaritans raised the US$500 fine.
Lungu, who completed his A-Levels in nine months and was studying law at the University of Zimbabwe, was detained by immigration officials for overstaying.
He appealed for help before being released with the support of Good Samaritans.
His Zambia-based aunt, Samantha Simasiku, played a key role in facilitating his release with the help of well-wishers.
“l have been pushing for Mike to be released prayerfully.
“Many thanks to all the well-wishers and helpers who carried the burden off my shoulders and came through for the young man, God bless you,” she said.
Lungu was arrested at the Kenneth Kaunda International airport as he was trying to return to Zimbabwe after completing some short courses in Zambia.
He was ordered to pay a fine of US$500 or risk being jailed before being deported.
Mike entered Zambia on March 29 and got a 30-day non-extendable business visitor.
His visa expired on April 28 and he stayed up to September 5.
