GENTLE BROOKE romped to victory at the Champion Fillies Stakes at Borrowdale Racecourse on Sunday. The Army Bronkhorst-trained runner defied the odds to win the 1 800 metres race that had several seasoned runners with Fanie Chambers as the pilot. With last year’s Castle Tankard and the OK Grand Challenge winner Equina in the field, Gentle Brooke was placed seventh before the race.

The five-year-old mare finished 0,5 lengths in front to register her sixth win in 23 attempts.
Demitasse, from the Lisa Harris stable, came second with Randall Simmons pulling the straps. Supa Dupa was third with Tallie Two coming fourth.

The Bronkhorst Yard had four entries in the race – Big Monty, Equina and Super Dupa and Gentle Brooke.
