Geo Pomona expands waste collection fleet

Sunday Mail Reporter

THE company contracted to manage Harare’s waste, Geo Pomona, is set to expand its refuse collection fleet following a visit to leading Chinese truck manufacturer Sinotruck Howo.

The delegation, which was led by its chief executive officer and executive chairperson Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, toured the Sinotruck Howo sales company in Jinan, China, a global hub of heavy-duty truck innovation.

The company intends to acquire modern waste collection vehicles to enhance service delivery in the capital.

“We are thrilled to announce that more refuse collection trucks are on the way,” the company said in a statement on Friday.

“Our team inspected the Geo Pomona waste collection fleet currently being manufactured at Sinotruck International in Jinan and Qingdao.

“We are sourcing world-class equipment to boost efficiency in Zimbabwe.”

President Mnangagwa recently commissioned the company’s 45 refuse collection trucks.

Delivered under a tripartite agreement between Geo Pomona, the City of Harare and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the trucks have since been deployed to residential areas and Harare’s central business district.

Geo Pomona recently introduced door-to-door refuse collection.

“We have cleared many illegal dumpsites in the capital to ensure a clean environment. Residents are now witnessing proper service delivery, with refuse being collected weekly as scheduled,” the company added.

Sinotruck Howo, which exports trucks to more than 90 countries, impressed the Geo Pomona team with its state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and global track record.

“As we work to expand our refuse collection fleet, we are learning from the best. This partnership reflects our commitment to bringing world-class standards to Zimbabwe’s waste management sector,” Geo Pomona said.

The expanded fleet is expected to significantly improve Harare’s waste management system, which has long been hampered by a shortage of functional refuse trucks and chronic service delivery challenges.
