GEO Pomona Waste Management is committed to positioning Zimbabwe as a leader in global waste management, its chief executive officer and executive chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya has said.

He said recent collaborations with countries such as Türkiye and Belgium have enhanced Zimbabwe’s reputation, establishing it as a significant player in the waste management sector.

“So far, we have cleared 250 000 tonnes of waste from illegal dump sites.

“We are talking of waste which was accumulated for years, which had not been collected for many years, but when Geo Pomona signed a contract with the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, we made sure that this moves with speed and efficiently to clear all the illegal dump sites,” he said.

Dr Nguwaya said several countries within the SADC region and beyond have been visiting to learn from the initiative, indicating the success of the company.

He also expressed appreciation to President Mnangagwa for prioritising this transformative project, which is having a positive impact on many lives in the country, and has been accorded national project status.

Recently, President Mnangagwa commissioned the second batch of refuse collection equipment from Geo Pomona Waste Management, marking another significant step in the capital city’s drive towards cleaner streets and improved environmental health.

The newly acquired fleet, which includes refuse compactors, tipper trucks, skip trucks and street sweepers, is set to bolster existing resources and enhance the efficiency of waste collection across Harare.

Geo Pomona said the additional machinery will enable faster turnaround times, a wider service reach, and more consistent refuse collection for residents and businesses alike.
