GEO POMONA Waste Management remains committed to President Mnangagwa’s philosophy, “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo” (The nation is built by its own people), by ensuring that Zimbabweans live in a clean environment.
Speaking at a study tour of the International Solid Waste Association in Italy last week, Geo Pomona chief executive and executive chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the company intended to implement in Zimbabwe what it learnt in Italy. This, he added, was in fulfilment of the President’s philosophy.
“We are very grateful to the Government of Zimbabwe, led by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Comrade Mnangagwa, the one who is empowering us as Zimbabweans, to say Zimbabwe must be built by its own people, Africa must be built by Africans. We are coming here (Italy) to learn so that whatever we learn here, we are going to implement in our country. As you are aware, Geo Pomona is a company which was established in the New Dispensation.
“In everything we are doing, we are aligned to the vision of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, of leaving ‘no one and no place behind’ and making sure that the people of Zimbabwe must live in a good environment, in a cleaner environment,” he said.
Dr Nguwaya said the waste management firm continues to draw on the expertise of those well versed in best-practice waste management solutions.
“This is the way to go. Every country’s people must live in a cleaner environment. Learning is a process. We continue learning, we continue taking ideas from these people; they have been doing this for more than 100 years. As Geo Pomona, we are new in this industry, but what is very important is to make sure that we learn and educate our people to do the right things,” said Dr Nguwaya.
Meanwhile, a COSAFA Member Association delegation led by ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi toured the waste management site last Saturday to get a feel for the facility’s FIFA-certified football pitch as well as its operations.
South African Football Association president, Mr Danny Jordaan, commended Geo Pomona for setting up the facility.
