Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd says it has dedicated street cleaning teams operating daily across Harare’s suburbs as part of its integrated waste management programme.
In an interview, Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd chief executive officer and executive chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the teams are responsible for sweeping the streets and removing litter and debris from major roads, shopping centres and public open spaces.
“The main aim is to improve cleanliness, reduce littering and promote good waste management practices in neighborhoods like Waterfalls,” he said.
“This is an ongoing initiative by Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd. Street cleaning and debris removal are part of our numerous daily operations to maintain environmental hygiene across Harare.
“The exercise is carried out daily, including weekends and public holidays, to ensure continuous cleanliness.”
Dr Nguwaya said Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd has 577 street cleaners deployed across Harare’s 36 districts.
“Each cleaner is equipped with one pushcart, a hard broom, shovel, rack and adequate protective clothing,” he said.
“Coverage includes high-congestion areas such as the Central Business District, Mbare, as well as residential suburbs like Waterfalls, major streets, shopping centres, bus termini and open spaces.
“The programme falls under our broader ‘Clean and Safe Harare Street Cleaning Services’ drive, which supports our 3-month awareness campaign on Good Waste Management Practices and Behavioural Change.
“The main aim of this initiative is to improve cleanliness, reduce littering and promote good waste management practices in neighbourhoods. Our teams work daily to keep communities clean, safe and presentable for residents, while also engaging the public on responsible waste disposal.”
