FORMER Peak Black Swallows coach, George Madira, did not leave Eswatini football after all as he has been quietly working as assistant coach of MTN premier league side Denver Sundowns.
Madira, who masterminded Peak Swallows to the Eswatini big league is reprising a role that used to belong to Julius Chakupewa.
It seems Denver Sundowns have a thing for talent from Zimbabwe as they have, over the years, being home to many trainers and players from Zimbabwe. Think Stanford Ncube, Jacob Muzokomba, Pride Zendera, and Knowledge Jimu. And don’t forget Rodwell Dhlakama, who won the club’s last major cup in 2012.
Coaches Darlington Dodo and Godfrey Tamirepi also managed Denver Sundowns though their stay at the club was not memorable as they were fired after brief reigns.
At the weekend Madira’s Sundowns saw their SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup run come to an end after they lost 4-5 to Manzini Wanderers on penalties after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time in a match played at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday.
Takesure Chiragwi’s Mhlume Peacemakers lost 1-3 in the same tournament to Moneni Pirates. The match was also decided through a shoot-out after the two sides drew 2-2.
Also falling by the wayside was Ayanda Ncube and his Malanti Chiefs who were knocked out by MTN National First Division outfit Madlenya 1-2 in one of the tournament’s major upsets which heads into the quarter-finals stage this weekend.
