The Zimbabwe Germany Society will this Saturday host a free professional actor-training event, which will be held under the theme “What to expect for International Auditions”. The event is organised by Almasi Collaborative Arts and is expected to start at 10 am and end at 12 pm. Popular singer-cum actress Kudzai Sevenzo will be the main attraction at the event. She was awarded a Cultural Exchange Programme Artistes Grant by this organisation that is holding this event. The grant enabled her to travel to the United States of America to undertake auditions for graduate acting programmes from January to March this year and this enabled her to be introduced to the New York’s Public Theatre.
The event is a chance for her to educate aspiring actors and actresses as well as to share her experiences on the acting industry in the outside world and the challenges that comes with it.
Associate Artistic director for Almasi Collaborative Arts Elizabeth Zaza Muchemwa said this event is a chance for young artistes out there to learn from Kudzai’s experiences.
“I believe this event will be helpful to the aspiring actors and actresses out there, but not just the actors but also the artists in general.
“Kudzai, through her experience in the United States, will be able to tell upcoming and aspiring artistes that they can make it regardless of the barriers that exist,” Muchemwa said.
In an interview, Kudzai Sevenzo, said Almasi Collaborative Arts has helped her a lot in providing training and opportunities for her to do a lot of projects in the acting industry.
“Almasi Collaborative Arts has helped me a lot in different areas, I got a chance to travel to the United States of America and I had a great time.
“The reason why I am doing this programme on Saturday is because I realised that as Zimbabweans, our acting industry always remains where it is, therefore there is need to teach the people out there that it is not that hard to break into the international market.
“While in the United States, I got a chance to meet with Zimbabwe born actress Danai Gurira, she is raising the country’s flag high in the United States and is so passionate about telling a Zimbabwean story there.
“I also met with Lupita Nyong’o and I had a good time, I learnt a lot therefore these are some of the experiences that I am going to share with the people at Germany Society on Saturday,” Sevenzo said.
The grant that was awarded to Kudzai by the Almasi Collaborative Arts is to provide an opportunity to exceptional African artistes who have applied for assistance to go to the United States of America for educational purposes in the Dramatic Arts.
