Get busy this holiday

Touch lives while rocking your holiday.Time flies and only yesterday, some were whining and dreading the start of the second term. Maybe not everyone, but it is no secret that a number of students could not wait for the end of winter. Goodbye early cold mornings. The coming of the harmonised elections on July 31 has brought schools to an early break and that calls for a celebration.
Before jumping the gun, it is of importance to note that school is never really over. Studying should continue throughout the holidays because just like a car, expensive one that is, your brain needs to be “serviced” often to avoid problems.
It is also an important point to note that the upcoming third term is the final and most important of the year.
It is a life defining for those who will be sitting for their Grade Seven, Form Four and Six examinations.
The results from the final exams will determine the next form, or stage in one’s life so there is no need to get too excited.
That, however, does not change the fact that the holidays are coming. Besides assignments and catching up with friends and sleep, Cool Lifestyle would like to engage all teens to do something constructive.
It might be a new experience for some, but other teens have somehow adopted the concept of sparing a thought for the underprivileged.
Cool Lifestyle is urging teens around Zimbabwe to take time and volunteer at homes or shelters for vulnerable children.
Our beautiful country has children’s homes in all of its provinces and it would be cool to lend a helping hand to those who need it the most.
For years, a number of you have donated different resources that are centred towards charity. Although this is highly commendable, take it a step further and be hands- on this holiday. God will bless you!
Such an initiative is likely to help one learn new skills while improving their curriculum vitae.
It is a great opportunity to interact with people and organisations that might help your career in the future.
How one helps in a home comes in different ways. The best, however, is based on an individual’s capacity.
Local is lekker
To save time and ensure consistency in your participating it is always good to start close to home. Parents, guardians and leaders in the community can help you to identify homes that are close to you.
It is amazing how the little that you do can change the life of another person.
Play big brother or big sister role
Helping in homes is not only limited to giving financial aid, but being there for vulnerable children. While other children are privileged to have parents and siblings that help us in different ways, other children do not.
With your experience, you could mentor the young kids and give advice on school, peer pressure, sports and other stuff that can help their cause.
Just be careful and ensure that you give sound advice. It is recommended that you consult elders or professionals in order to give the best advice.
Make buddies
Better yet, one could play the buddy role and hanging out with children who were neglected.
This can change their lives considering that some misinformed people sideline them.
The thought that someone cares enough to spend time with them brings hope to vulnerable children.
They are kids too and as such they find joy in hooking up with people their age.
Share gadgets; help each other with holiday homework.
Remember, this activity can be even more fun if you join forces with a friend or two. Just don’t lose hope if no one is interested in doing it with           you.
Point to note also is that you do not have to strain other areas of your life, do it only when you have time.
Helping out those in need is not only commendable, but also the coolest thing to do. You don’t have to be rich (like Bill Gates) or famous (like Angelina Jolie) to help thje needy. So get busy this holiday.
