adminACCRA. – GHANA’s much anticipated economic growth hinges on the implementation of science, technology and innovation, a senior government official has said. The West Africa’s second largest economy has been making inroads towards accelerating its socio-economic transformation through the use of technology. The Minister of Environment,Science, Technology and Innovation, Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, said meaningful development for Ghana would require indigenous technologies in order to address local needs and wants.
“Without investment in indigenous but world class technology, we will be left to adopt costly foreign technologies that are not designed or developed based on our conditions,” Oppong-Fosu said.
Oppong-Fosu made the sentiments at the official launch of Ananse identification platform.
It is an indigenous technology solution aimed at enhancing identification, address location and navigation system in Ghana.
The new solution, which is based on mobile device uses GPS coordinates, latest advances in biometric technology, electronic maps and satellite navigation to produce an integrated identification, addressing and location database to meet business and public needs.
Oppong-Fosu said Ghana should not lag behind in developing technologies that would address the country’s own challenges. – CAJ News.
