GIFFORD High School shot to the top of the Dumisani Ndlovu Foundation Under-15 Schools Football League table after beating Milton High 2-1 in a match played at Milton on Saturday. The match had initially been set for Gifford, but had to be shifted to Milton as the grass at the host school was deemed unplayable.
Gifford took the lead through captain Terrence Ncube before Vincent Mujee equalised for Milton. Promise Mlotshwa sealed the win for the Nathan Tshuma-coached Gifford, who had been held 1-1 by Entumbane.
It was a drawback for coach Tendai Machawira’s Milton, who had gone into the game oozing with confidence after clobbering Mtshabezi High 4-1 in the previous week.
Mtshabezi bounced back at the weekend to thump Entumbane 4-0. Gifford lead the four-team table with four points followed by Mtshabezi on three, the same as Milton, while Entumbane are at the bottom.
The competition format sees the four schools playing each other on a home and away basis with the top two meeting in the final. The bottom two will also battle it out for the third place play-off. The final will be played at Entumbane High on a date yet to be announced.
