Gig organisers allay violence fears

Organisers of Sting 2014 show that is slated for City Sports Centre on Saturday have assured stakeholders in the music industry that the “clash” would curb violence that is common in dancehall music.

Despite bringing arch-rivals Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Love in the ‘clash of the tournament’ organisers have revealed that they will do everything to control musicians and fans in order to present a peaceful event.

Chipaz Promotions, organisers of the show, have revealed that security will be tight while musicians will be under strict instructions not to promote violence.

Seh Calaz recently went off-side when he announced he would not stop singing lyrics that encourage violence but the musician later apologised and promised to do his best to promote peace and unity among fans and fellow musicians.

Chipaz Promotions boss, Partson Chimbodza, said they are working hard to prepare for a historic dancehall event and ensure fans and musicians show unity.

“Violence will be under control at Sting 2014. Of course it will be a clash of musicians but we will do it in a peaceful way. It has to be fun. We are hosting the event under the theme ‘No to Violence’ and we will do our best to fight violence,” said Chimbodza.

“We want the music industry to appreciate that young dancehall musicians can also have positive influence on the society. We are strictly against violence and we will do our best to make sure the event flows smoothly.”

The show will pit Seh Calaz against Soul Jah Love as the main clash of the event.

The two arch-rivals will go tune-for-tune which means that they will both appear on stage at the same time and battle it out.

Seh Calaz who is the protagonist of the Mabhanditi camp will lead his charges against Soul Jah Love’s Conquering Family in a battle for supremacy that promises fireworks.

Between them, there is a rich discography of ‘diss’ songs which are likely to send the crowd into a frenzy during the face-off.

However, the two artistes have maintained that there is no bad blood between them as the beef only exists on stage. There is also a host other artistes who will settle scores at the Sting. Lady Squanda will go head-to-head with Lady B while Badman will square-off with Platinum Prince.

Quonfuzed will battle Terminator, Jiggaz versus Ricky Fire and last but least Bounty Lisa will face off X Patriot.

There is also battle of the sounds systems whereby Mighty Ducks will compete against Fyah Links while Black Spider will taken on Red Fox Family.
