After years working together as an inseparable duo in fashion shows and other high profile red carpet events, city socialites Mbo Mahocs and Gilmore Tee are now ready to take the small screen by storm after their TV show, Thatha Wena, debuted this week.
The two share an inimitable chemistry that has seen them become the go-to presenters whenever high profile celebrity gigs or corporate events are held. Now they are taking it a step further, with all that energy on stage set to be brought to thousands of homes after their magazine show debuted on ZTV.
Mahocs and Gilmore Tee who alongside Nka Malunga, Johane Mpofu and Tswarelo Mothobe conceptualised the show in 2015, came up with the idea of a Pan African Magazine show from Zimbabwe that gives voice to conversations society should be having.
With Mahocs and Gilmore Tee at the helm, the show sees to talk to a?the individuals that make the continent move, particularly those people behind individuals in the limelight, behind innovative and progressive initiatives, who are the drivers of Africaas economies, decision makers and industrialists in the diverse sectors that make Africa movea?.
a?Our goal is to build our society through a television show. With so many people glued to their TV screens, what better medium is there to plant the relevant ideas and suggest relevant and meaningful conversation to people,a? expressed the showas co-producer Tswarelo Mothobe.
a?Working with the team is extremely exciting, but having both talented individuals such as Mbo Mahocs and Gilmore Tee be the face of the entire production is an added advantage. We have been working on this concept and finally it is coming to life. It has been a long journey,a? he said.
The success of the show however, will come down to how the electric duo of Mahocs and Gilmore Tee interact with their esteemed guests. In an interview, Gilmore Tee outlined how their relationship helped in the creation of the magic they make when they share the mic.
a?I strongly believe that along the years of exchanging dialogue and being friends, I have grown to understand the Mbo Mahocs brand and have some sense of where it is going. We are both passionate about the creative industries and take time to gather more information outside our comfort zones. I guess that is why it is much easier to work with each other. We have the same circle of passionate friends.a?
a?I just think it is that energy that is contagious, as long it is with the right people involved. Another thing that I think allows us to make things move is the fact that we do not have to fake anything, we just are who we are and people love that originality and honesty,a? Gilmore Tee said.
With the relationship that they share in mind, Gilmore Tee said he was convinced that energy which had been seen so often on red carpet stages would be laid bare on the small screen.
a?We are both professional about what we do and also when it comes to making things happen, we do make it happen.
As a duo, we have power and energy and it is with that in mind that we will allow it to flourish even on air. It is all natural and that is the way to go,a? he said.
