A 31-year-old Rusape man yesterday appeared in court charged with kidnapping and indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl. Blessing Kanda appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe who remanded him in custody to January 13.
He was advised to seek bail at the High Court.
The State is alleging that Kanda picked up the girl at Rusape’s Vhengere Shopping Centre on December 28 on the pretext that he was taking the teenager to Silverhall Shopping Mall in the town. Instead of driving to the shopping mall, Kanda headed to Harare without the girl’s con- sent.
It is alleged that Kanda took the girl to Barca Night Club in the city centre where he fondled the minor, tearing her panties.
It is alleged Kanda only stopped abusing the girl after she threatened to report him to the police.
A Good Samaritan helped the girl report Kanda to the police, leading to his arrest.
