Girl (6) seeks funds to undergo womb transplant

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl from Gova village under Chief Njelele is seeking $2 000 to undergo a womb transplant after she was diagnosed of cervical cancer after being raped by her father some time last year.
The victim was only five when she was sexually abused by the father who is already serving an 18-year jail term after he was convicted of rape by Gokwe magistrate, Mr Amos Mbobo.

According to the mother, the girl was sexually abused by her father on several occasions during her absence and the matter only came to light when the girl contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

“I started sensing that something was abnormal when I discovered that a bad smell was coming out of the girl. I took her to the hospital and she was diagnosed of an STI which was treated. The father was later arrested after the girl opened up about the rape,” said the mother, who said she was not at liberty to get into the finer details of the matter after her in-laws chased her away accusing her of having a hand in the arrest and subsequent jailing of her husband.

She said she was now staying at her parents’ home after her in-laws chased her away together with her daughter.

“I am not at liberty to talk much about this incident which has ruined the life of my child. I am appealing to members of the public for money for the girl to undergo an operation. She was later diagnosed of cervical cancer and doctors said there was a need for a womb transplant.

She said doctors told her that $2 000 was needed for the girl to undergo an operation,” she said.

The mother said she had approached the local traditional leader, Chief Njelele, so that he could assist in her quest to seek funds for the girl.

Chief Njelele confirmed that the girl was seeking assistance to undergo a womb transplant when he was contacted for comment. He said the girl’s mother was unemployed and had no means of getting the money.

“We don’t know how to assist this girl who is in a difficult situation. The mother is not employed and to make matters worse, she was chased away by her in-laws and she is struggling to make ends meet,” said Chief Njelele.

“In most meetings and gatherings, I have narrated the plight of this girl but no assistance has been availed yet. I think we will soon get assistance because the girl has since stopped going to school because of the bad smell that comes out of her. Pupils were said to be no longer comfortable to sit with her in class.”

Efforts to get a comment from Gokwe District Hospital which is said to be the girl’s referral hospital were fruitless.

Those who wish to assist the girl can contact her mother on 0773412802.
