A 15-YEAR-Old from Bulawayo’s Lobengula West suburb allegedly gave birth to a baby and buried it under a guava tree at a house where she was employed. The juvenile yesterday appeared before Bulawayo Western Commonage magistrate Maphios Moyo facing a charge of concealing a pregnancy. Prosecuting, Tatenda Dakwa said on March 4 the accused who was employed as maid gave birth to a child at around 1PM.

“She gave birth to a baby and went on to bury it under a guava tree. Her employer did not suspect anything because the girl had kept the pregnancy secret for nine months,” he said.

He said her employer became suspicious a week later when she saw that her breasts were staining her shirt with milk.
“She questioned the girl on the matter and she claimed that she had a miscarriage. The employer who could not believe the girl dragged her to her grandmother where the juvenile confessed that she gave birth to baby and buried it under a tree,” said Dakwa.

He said the employer reported the matter at Luveve Police Station.
“Police attended the scene and exhumed the body which was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem,” he said.

The medical report said the cause of death could not be ascertained as the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The case continues today.
