GIRLS’ College has the bulk of players in the Bulawayo team for the Under-18 girls’ inter-provincial hockey tournament at Kumalo Hockey Stadium set for tomorrow and Saturday.

Girls’ College has 18 players while Petra High and the Dominican Convent provided nine and three players respectively to the Bulawayo Under-18A and Under-18B sides.

They will compete against Harare, Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland Country Districts.

Sheila Williams of Girls’ College said the provinces would showcase their best girls’ hockey players from which a future senior national women’s team could be assembled.

She said two teams would also be selected to represent the country in an Under-18 girls’ Test series against Zambia to be held in Bulawayo in August.

Petra High School’s Titus Chikonye said the selection of pupils from his school into the Bulawayo provincial team was a source of pride. He said the selected players were excited and practising hard to make into the Zimbabwe team for the Test series.
