GIRLS High captain Debra Teterai has challenged her team to improve their passing if they are to beat champions Vainona at the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival tomorrow. Flanker Teterai feels their performance against Mbare High, whom they beat 38-0, was not impressive. She said their passes were poor and they were only fortunate because they played a weaker team.
“It was good we won, but it was only because we played a weaker side, our passes were very poor,” said Teterai.
“Our target and plan was to score more than 50 points but we didn’t. Our back-line was not good enough, most of our players were too slow in reacting and, therefore, we are going to work on that.
“Our last assignment will be against Vainona, who are equally strong, and for us to beat them it is going to be tough.
“We are tired of Vainona beating us in this festival and so we are going to train hard and aim for a victory.
“On most occasions they beat us by three to five points, which means we can defeat them if only we work hard, and play as a team.”
Vainona said they were ready for the big showdown.
Coach Shingai Zhoya praised his team Vainona for their performance in their game against Goromonzi.
“I was very impressed with our performance in our match against Goromonzi, it was good that the team followed all the instructions,” said Zhoya.
“Our strategy was good, we worked on our passes because on Monday our passes were terrible.
“Our next fixture will be very interesting and if we do well in our preparations I believe it will not be hard to beat Girls High because we have a good squad. “Playing Girls High has always been what the girls look forward to so they cannot wait for the day to come.”
Prince Edward II coach, Hugh Vera, was happy after her team destroyed Eaglesvale 34-12.
Tanaka Chikwariro, Ashley Musa, Andres Georges and Tristian Moses scored tries for Prince Edward II.
“I was impressed with the boys, all went well,” said Vera.
“Our players have been doing well by carrying out our game plan.”
