Three suspected fraudsters have been arrested for attempting to defraud a fuel attendant at a service station in Chinhoyi.
The suspects allegedly approached a service station attendant and offered to exchange US$10 notes for US$100 notes.
The attendant handed the suspects five US$100 notes. Police said the suspects allegedly handed the attendant a bundle of bond notes, with a US$10 note placed on top and secured with a rubber band, before fleeing the scene towards Chegutu along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road.
Police in Zvimba subsequently intercepted and apprehended the suspects. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“On September 14, 2026, police in Chinhoyi swiftly responded to a report of fraud at a service station in the light industrial area of Chinhoyi, resulting in the arrest of three suspects, namely Freedom Chipano aged 43, Nyasha Chabata aged 33 and Shamaine Nyandoro aged 35,” he said.
“The suspects, who were travelling in a white Toyota RAV4 vehicle, registration number AFN 1446, allegedly approached a service station attendant and offered to exchange US$10 notes for US$100 notes.
“The attendant handed the suspects five US$100 notes, totalling US$500. The suspects allegedly handed the attendant a bundle of bond notes, with a US$10 note placed on top and secured with a rubber band, before fleeing the scene towards Chegutu along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road. Police in Zvimba subsequently intercepted and apprehended the suspects.”
