Girls’ High win again

converted try but Roosevelt failed to take their kick, making the difference.
This is the second year that girls rugby is being played at the festival after George Stark proved a hit last year.
This year saw an introduction of more girls’ teams at the event and these games have drawn a lot of interest.
Girls High stole the limelight yesterday as the Moneni Tavaziza-captained side got the better of bitter rivals Roosevelt.
It was a converted try by Lilian Nyakanyanga who managed to get over the Rosevelt whitewash that saw the eventual winners celebrate.
Roosevelt replied through Denise Dube towards the end of the game with a try but their try was not converted.
Girls High coach Abraham Rwodzi was happy with the win but believes his side has the potential to play better rugby.
“It was a good game although we struggled. The win will take us far as it helps to boost our morale ahead of the coming games.
“We trained hard for the game and playing against Roosevelt has always been difficult.
“The girls really wanted a win and they put in a lot of effort to win which made them happy as well. We managed to play as a team and we won as a team which makes it easy for us to plan for our next encounters,” Rwodzi said.
Roosevelt try scorer Denise Dube said she was not happy with her team’s performance.
“We did not play well because we could have put up more tries if only we could work as a team. It was quite a challenge, we could have won but we lacked confidence as a team,” said Dube.
In another girls’ match Eaglesvale bounced back from their 10-0 defeat at the hands of Roosevelt on Monday to beat struggling George Stark 5-0.
The Eagles’ victory was courtesy of a Lindwe Munerenyu try in the first minute of the game.
Eaglesvale’s coach Abigail Govere-Kawonza feels her team could have scored more tries.
“The girls played well today, they could have scored more tries if only they tackled well but I am sure the will do better on Friday. We lost to George Stark last year so I am happy that they failed to put up a try,” Govere-Kawonza said.
