RETIRED senior police officer superintendent Phillip Ncube has called on Government to provide police here with service vehicles, amid reports that officers are using their own resources to carry out their duties.

Rtd Supt Ncube, who retired from the Zimbabwe Republic Police on February 17, 2019 after 32 years of service, on Monday said five police bases in Masvingo namely, Nemanwa, Zimuto, Farmers’ Hall, Chidzikwe and Bondolfi were operating without service vehicles.

“It is unfortunate to note that at times they use their own means of transport to carry out organisational tasks,” he said.
“At times they are tempted to use vehicles owned by people they would have arrested, creating a fertile ground for corruption and other malpractices in the force. Police officers are in dire need of service vehicles, especially in resettlement areas, to enhance operational efficiency.

“The provision of service vehicles for police details to fight crime is in tandem with the dictates of the Police Client Service Charter.”

Rtd Supt Ncube called on the corporate world to assist ZRP through provision of resources to fight crime.
He said although he has retired, he was prepared to assist the Second Republic as a consultant in fighting crime.
