A GUN shop owner in Harare is being accused of selling a client’s firearm without permission.
Tawanda Chikeya claims he took his pistol to Precision Shooting Equipment for repair and left his licence there, but was told that the pistol could not be fixed and was, instead, sold for US$400.
Chikeya said the pistol is worth US$1 000.
“They booked my pistol for service at their workshop and I even left my licence as prescribed by the law in Zimbabwe that you can’t buy bullets or service your firearm without an original licence.
“After a week, they called me saying the magazine haichaite kuigadzira since it had some problems uye ivo havana type iyoyo.
“I then advised them that I was going to collect it with the intention to look for other shops, but surprisingly they told me that the gun was sold.
“I then demanded the money they sold the gun for and that’s when the problem started. They offered me a smaller pistol than mine, ndikairamba.
“I went there several times until I made a police report and he changed the issue. How could he sell my gun without my affidavit,” said Chikeya.
Shop owner, Phenias Munzara, has denied the allegations and says Chikeya was offered another gun when it was realised that the original pistol could not be repaired.
He said Chikeya returned the paperwork for the new gun, which he says was valued at US$1 000.
“He came to repair his gun and we advised him that it was no longer repairable and we offered him another one.

“I told him to return the papers for the gun we offered him and he did so, saka shop inofanira kutengesa pfuti yatanga tavapa kuti tikwanise kuvapa mari yavo.
“Tinovapa tatengesa pfuti yatakavapa sekuwirirana kwatakaita from the start,” Munzara said.
