GLEN View East Circuit United Methodist Church choir ruled the roost at this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe West Annual Music Festival.
The group claimed top prize after shrugging off competition from 14 other participants who competed in a set piece and their own choice songs.
For their efforts, the group walked away with US$3 000, $14 000 and a trophy courtesy of the late church leader, Bishop Abel Muzorewa’s nephews and nieces.
“We brought home two more trophies from the ZWAC Main Choir Music Festival, what an honour.
“This was a result of hard work, prayer and great team work,” said the winning choirmaster, Jordan Kambarami.
Speaking at the same event, conference director Takudzwa Marange said this year’s competition was exceptional.
“We had a great music conference and we are happy that all the 15 participants brought in their A-game.
“Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all our sponsors and adjudicators for breathing life into the event,” said Marange.
Glen View East Circuit came first on the set piece segment and only managed sixth position for their own choice song.
Mufakose circuit then came first for the own choice segment but performed dismally (11th position) on the set piece.
However, Glen View East were named the best overall choir.
Other circuits represented at the festival include Karoi, Bindura, Kambuzuma, Kuwadzana, Budiriro, Hatclife, Warren Park, Glen Norah, Glen View, Inner City, St Mark, Highglen and Revelations.
The event was also graced by United Methodist’s deputy administrative assistant to the Bishop, Reverend Vienna Mutezo, and other leaders.
