ACROSS the world’s premier travel stages, Zimbabwe is scripting a powerful new chapter—one defined by breathtaking landscapes, cultural pride, visionary leadership, and growing international acclaim.
From the thunderous majesty of Victoria Falls to the mist-shrouded peaks of the Eastern Highlands, the country is capturing the imagination of global travellers like never before.
That spotlight shone brightest in 2026 when Zimbabwe dazzled audiences at ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism exhibition.
At the centre of this success story is Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, whose bold leadership and global engagement are propelling Zimbabwe into a new era of tourism excellence.
At the same ceremony, Minister Rwodzi was honoured as Tourism Minister of the Year Africa, a recognition of her transformative leadership and innovative approach in repositioning Zimbabwe’s tourism sector on the global stage.
All eyes turned to the Zimbabwe Pavilion at ITB Berlin 2026, selected as one of only six pavilions for a special guided visit organised by the exhibition team—a powerful endorsement of Zimbabwe’s rising influence in the global tourism marketplace.
Addressing more than 30 international travel trade representatives, Minister Rwodzi delivered a compelling presentation that captured the spirit of Zimbabwe’s tourism renaissance.
Her message was clear: Zimbabwe is a destination where nature, culture, and authentic experiences converge.
Visitors were introduced to a rich tourism offering spanning world-renowned natural wonders, wildlife-rich national parks, vibrant cultural traditions, and authentic gastronomy.
The engagement opened doors for new partnerships and positioned Zimbabwe firmly as a must-visit destination.
The Eastern Highlands featured prominently in Zimbabwe’s narrative, with its misty mountains, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil landscapes showcased as one of the country’s most enchanting and emerging tourism frontiers.
Stretching along Zimbabwe’s eastern border, the Eastern Highlands present a striking contrast to the country’s savannah wilderness.
Increasingly, visitors are drawn to Nyanga National Park, home to Mutarazi Falls—the tallest waterfall in Zimbabwe.

The dramatic Chimanimani Mountains and the cool, forested Bvumba Hills offer scenic beauty, adventure opportunities, and serene retreats that are capturing growing international attention.
The region’s profile rose further last year when Mutare hosted the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo.
The event brought together hundreds of global tourism stakeholders, transforming the city into a vibrant hub of culture, promotion, and investment dialogue.
For many international visitors, it was their first encounter with the breathtaking landscapes of the Eastern Highlands—an experience that underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to decentralising tourism growth and spreading benefits across communities.
Zimbabwe’s momentum continued in Berlin, where the country earned two prestigious accolades from the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association. Crowned Destination of the Year for Natural Wonders, Zimbabwe was recognised for its exceptional landscapes, conservation leadership, and authentic visitor experiences.
These awards affirm that the nation’s tourism strategy is delivering results and positioning Zimbabwe as a respected global destination.
Beyond landscapes and wildlife, Zimbabwe is captivating audiences through gastronomy tourism.
At ITB Berlin 2026, the Zimbabwe Pavilion buzzed with activity as visitors sampled traditional dishes, learned about preparation methods, and discovered the cultural stories behind each meal. Many returned for second servings, enchanted by the unique flavours of Zimbabwe’s diverse food traditions.
This growing gastronomy movement is championed by the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is also patron of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
Through festivals, competitions, and community initiatives, the programme is empowering women and youth while elevating Zimbabwean cuisine as a compelling attraction.
Tourism momentum is also anchored in national leadership and reforms guided by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Through re-engagement efforts, Zimbabwe has strengthened international partnerships, expanded air connectivity, improved infrastructure, and rolled out an ambitious 13-cluster diversification model.
This framework broadens tourism beyond wildlife to include gastronomy, heritage, culture, adventure, sports, and community tourism—creating wider opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Minister Barbara Rwodzi’s engagement with Zimbabweans living in Germany further reflected a people-centred approach, encouraging diaspora collaboration in promoting tourism, culture, and investment.
From Hwange’s vast wilderness to Mana Pools’ pristine floodplains, Gonarezhou’s rugged terrain, the spiritual Matobo Hills, mystical Chinhoyi Caves, and the historic grandeur of Great Zimbabwe, the country offers travellers a rare blend of adventure, heritage, and authenticity.
Zimbabwe’s triumph in Berlin is not just a celebration—it is a powerful signal that the nation’s tourism industry is rising with confidence and purpose on the global stage.
