THE Government has installed the new substantive Chief Madamombe in Chivi as it continues restoring and upgrading chieftainships in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira presided over the installation of Mr Daniel Chikwehle as the new substantive Chief Madamombe at a colourful ceremony held at Ruminya High School in Chivi North.

Minister Chadzamira was representing Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe.

In his address, Minister Chadzamira underscored the Second Republic’s high regard for the role played by the traditional leadership institution in nation building.

He said President Mnangagwa’s administration will continue to closely work with traditional leaders to engender socio-economic transformation that is in sync with Vision 2030.

Traditional leaders, he said, were agents of community development in their areas of jurisdiction.

He also indicated that they were proponents of cultural preservation who also played an important role in arbitrating disputes and resolving conflicts.

Zimbabwe’s nation-building drive, he said was also being given traction by traditional leaders as point persons for development initiatives in their localities.

Minister Chadzamira chronicled the rich history of the Madamombe people, saying the installation of a new substantive Chief Madamombe showed the Government’s commitment to fully restore the dignity of the traditional leadership institution.
