The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has made significant strides in settling payments to farmers, disbursing over US$32 million and more than ZWG296 million, a development expected to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen national food security.
In a statement, GMB chief executive officer Dr Edson Badarai said GMB has made substantial progress in paying farmers.
“The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) is delighted to announce that it has made cumulative payments of US$32 388 822.03 representing 88% and ZWG296 361 565.17 accounting for 83% total payments to farmers,” he said.
The timely disbursement of payments is critical in sustaining farmer confidence, enabling them to procure inputs, service loans and prepare for subsequent farming seasons.
Delays in payments have historically affected production cycles, making the latest development a welcome relief for producers across the country.
Added Dr Badarai, “This vital funding by the Treasury brings much-needed relief to farmers. The support underscores the Government’s steadfast commitment to agriculture, a key sector driving Zimbabwe’s economy.”
Agriculture remains the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy, contributing significantly to food security, employment and raw materials for industry.
Dr Badarai said GMB remains committed to strengthening its partnership with farmers as part of broader efforts to guarantee national food security.
