The Grain Marketing Board has donated groceries and school equipment worth US$2 000 to orphans and underprivileged children at Open Tribe Foundation Primary (OTF) in Epworth.
Speaking at a handover ceremony yesterday, GMB general manager Mr Albert Mandizha hailed the foundation for promoting education to underprivileged children despite financial challenges it was facing.
“Poverty forces many youngsters to drop out of school, but through this programme you have given these children a second chance by bringing education to their doorstep. The projects that you are engaged in will continue to bring a ray of hope to these orphaned children, the poor, the elderly and the disabled that the foundation is assisting through education and feeding schemes.”
Epworth National Assembly member Cde Amos Midzi urged OTF to continue supporting underprivileged children to enhance their education and life skills.
He pledged to help the foundation to secure bigger space to operate on.
“OTF should continue with the good work, since these children are the future of our nation,” he said. “OTF needs bigger space and we will see what we can do to offer support that will help in sustaining OTF.” The foundation offers education to orphaned and underprivileged children in areas in and around Epworth. OTF was founded in 2010 by Mr Fanuel Chimbindi, an electrical engineer.
The foundation caters for over 1 025 children with 80 percent of them being orphans.
