POLICE have arrested two Grain Marketing Board (GMB) employees from Hwange for allegedly stealing Presidential Inputs worth US$7 000.
Philani Ndlovu (47) who was the GMB Hwange depot acting handling supervisor and Calvin Kuedzisa (22) a loader were arrested while an accomplice, Tafara Kudengeya (age not given) who was the depot clerk is still at large.
The trio reportedly stole 190 by 50kgs fertilisers that were destined to Simangani in Hwange for the Intwasa/Pfumvudza programme.
In a tweet, police said only fertilizer worth US$631 was recovered.
“ZRP confirms the arrested of three GMB employees in connection with a case of theft of 190 by 50kg fertilisers meant for the Intwasa Presidential Input Scheme, which occurred on 26 January in Hwange,” said the police.
Circumstances are that last Thursday at 3pm, a 10 tonne truck arrived at GMB Hwange loaded and loaded 200 bags destined for Simangani.
The trio allegedly boarded the truck.
Kuedzisa was dropped in the industrial area before the truck proceeded along the Victoria Falls Highway.
Police allege that the truck turned towards Empumalanga suburb and the driver drove to a certain house where the suspects offloaded the bags of ammonium nitrate fertiliser.
Some alert security agents observed what was happening and through investigations, established that the inputs had been stolen.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the duo, and Kudengeya is on the run.
Last year some GMB employees in Binga were also arrested for stealing grain and farming inputs. – @ncubeleon.
