“GMB has embraced the project to safeguard the country’s biggest grain depot that has an asset base of US$350 million — 500 000 tonnes of grain in silos.” The state-of-the-art digital equipment comprises eight cameras, five of which are fixed and three speed dorm cameras for patrolling and capturing things at a range of two kilometres with a revolution of 360 degrees.
“There is a major change in work culture, when people are aware they are being monitored they perform better hence it’s also a matter of efficiency,” said Mr Chikaura.
He said the system would assist in minimising risks and makes detection easy hence immediate intervention by the managerial team. Mr Chikaura said GMB was in the process of centralising all its 84 deports to the head office through a system called the Very Small Aperture Terminal. VSAT is a network that sees all depots throughout the country connected to the head office in Harare.
Mr Chikaura also applauded his board for complying with the on-going customer services week saying the system would ensure good service delivery to its valid customers.
Speaking at the same occasion, GMB general manager Mr Albert Mandizha, said the CCTVs were expected to reduce weigh bridge fraud, which saw GMB losing tonnes of grain.
