HIGH scoring Bulawayo Social Soccer League teams have surpassed the 100 goal mark during their league games this season.
Today they are back in the trenches for match Day 32 games starting at 1100hrs, followed by the second batch of games after lunch. Among the teams that have goal hungry strikers are Man U from Pool A who have hit the bull’s eye 128 times from 28 assignments to date.
Former Chicken Inn player Josiah “Joker” Kashiri now a player-coach at Man U is convinced that the motivation among the players to be top goal scorers at the end of the season is the reason why the team is scoring for fun.
“Self-motivation to be the club’s top goal scorer at the end of the season is pushing the boys to work hard. Whenever we score a goal we always pick up the ball from our opponents’ nets and take in to the centre for a restart. When the season began we had Hloniphani Ndebele with us, who scored about 28 goals in less than 10 games,” said Kashiri.
In terms of their hopes at the end of the season a cautious Josiah said they are taking one game at a time.
“We are taking one game at a time, hopefully all things being equal we can win the league title,” he added.
Following close behind from their pool are the reigning Champions Stars who have found the back of the net 122 times against 41. For their sweat they occupy second position on the log. They are still in the championship race. Today, they step into the ring against Vula Vale hoping that Man U who are playing 70 Combination run out of steam along the way so that they can sneak into the top of the log.
In Pool B the highest scoring teams are log leaders Mthala who have hit the target 103 times against 40.
They are followed by Legends who have 101 goals under their belt against 54. The last team in the pool to hit this milestone mark is 94 Strivers who have 100 goals credit against 55. Joining this elite group of teams’ goal hunger is Celtics with a goal harvest of 115 goals against 48.
They are flanked by Skippers on 100 against 55. More goals are set to flow again today when teams clash in their scheduled league games.
