Goat thief fined

A MUTARE man has been fined $5 000 by the court after he was arrested for stealing six goats.

 

Omega Maorere (25) appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala facing stock theft charges.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

 

On top of the fine, Maorere was ordered to restitute the goats to their owner, Blessing Maraire.

 

Ms Sharon Chibvongodze prosecuted.

 

The court heard that on an unknown date but between August 13 and 17, Maorere stole the goats.

 

“The accused stole six goats from Maraire’s goat pen and sold four to Mafadzeni Nechiora who owns Defrank Takeaway. Another goat was sold to Wilson Chimonyo who owns NNW Investments Takeaway, both situated at Wengezi Business Centre in Chimanimani.

 

“Maorere was arrested when he was about to sell the remaining goat to Taremeredzwa Saburi who owns Donhodzo Butchery,” said Ms Chibvongodze.

 

Saburi alerted the police, leading to the arrest of Maorere.

 

Maorere was unable to give a reason when asked by the court whey he committed the offence.

 

The value of the stolen goats is $9 000 and $2 000 was recovered.
