A CHIMANIMANI family dispute has spilled into the courts of law with a man who is accused of causing problems within the family through his alleged goblins applying for a protection order against his siblings.
The Nyandure family members are accusing Ernest Nyandure of possessing goblins.
ln his application for a protection order, Ernest cited Crispen Nyandure, his brother; Ellen Nyandure, his sister-in-law; Pfumai, his son and Tatenda, his grandson, as the people disturbing his peace.
Ernest told the court that his family members are jealous of him as he was appointed a community leader in Chief Mutambara’s area, hence their allegations on goblins.
“They took the issue to Chief Mutambara and the chief sent his spiritual healer to my home to expose the goblins. However, the spiritual healer did not find anything. He promised to come back to look further for the goblins but he never returned,” said Ernest.
He said he now wants protection from his marauding family members.
However, Crispen insisted that his brother Ernest is behind the misfortunes haunting the family, including his grandchild’s ailment.
“A spiritual healer told us that Ernest’ goblins are causing the child’s ailment. He prayed and the child vomited a snail which had some pimples. He said the snail was causing a rare skin disease on the child’s face. The child would cry the whole night.
“The same snail was found in one of Ernest’s shoes. The spiritual healer said that snail enables him to go for a week without eating anything. We are not labelling him a wizard, but the spiritual healer says he is behind all this,” said Crispen.
Pfumai and his wife said they are only concerned by their child’s health.
“We engaged other family members so that our child could be treated by spiritual healers but Ernest and his wife refused to cooperate.
“The spiritual healer seconded by Chief Mutambara to Ernest’s homestead for an exorcism ceremony and named him and his wife as the sources of the family problems. His wife admitted that she and her husband are involved in sorcery.
“His wife confessed that they are bewitching the child. She said they take the child at night and change him into a snake. She also said they want to kill the child and turn him into one of their goblins. She also revealed that they possess two hyenas,” said Pfumai.
“Ernest and his wife sought sanctuary at his in-laws’ home in Nyanga as we were seeking spiritual help. We followed them there and the matter was heard at Chief Saunyama’s court.
“We were instructed to join hands as a family and find a lasting solution. Ernest and his wife admitted at Chief Saunyama’s court that they are causing the child’s ailment.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter and granted the protection order in Ernest’s favour.
