The culpable homicide trial of a Gogo Plaxedes Mashasha, who made headlines for spending days with the decomposing body of her husband in the house, failed to kick off yesterday.
Gogo Mashasha, 66, appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court and her case was remanded to March 8.
She is currently out on bail.
“The State is not yet ready for trial, but we are ready,” said her lawyer, Arshiel Mugiya.
The State said Gogo Mashasha left her ailing husband, Gideon Mashasha, in the care of their son, Grant Mashasha, whose mental stability has also been questioned
She allegedly went to an unknown place knowing that her husband needed constant care.
Gideon was left sleeping in their bedroom where he died and when he returned home, she stayed pretended that all was well and stayed with his decomposing body in the house.
She alleged that her son Grant had locked the door from inside and she could not open it for days. The State said gross negligence resulted in the death of Gideon as he was denied food and medical attention.
