had the best 2012 Grade Seven results in the province after recording 99,35 percent pass rate.
Masvingo province’s average pass rate in the Grade Seven results for 2012 is 30,7 percent.
Masvingo district had eight of its schools among the province’s top 10 out of the 835 primary schools in the province.
According to reports from the provincial education office, there is only one pupil who failed one subject out of 153 candidates who sat for the 2012 examinations at Gokomere. The pupil failed Mathematics hence the schools could not record a 100 percent pass rate.
Masvingo provincial education director Ms Clara Dube, who released the results, said it had been difficult to rank the schools due to a big variance in enrolment.
She said that some schools had four pupils sitting for examinations while others had as many as 284.
Hellen McGhie had the second best results and it was an improvement from last year when it took position three in 2011 results.
The Masvingo urban school had a pass rate of 98,7 percent and had 77 students, who sat for the examinations. Gokomere was second in the 2011 results after being outshone by the council-run Shakashe Primary School that had a 100 percent pass rate.
Shakashe scored a 96,83 percent pass rate and came third best school in the province. The school is followed by Kyle Primary School of Chiredzi district, which came fourth scoring 95,05 percent with 101 pupils while Chiredzi Government Primary School came fifth with a pass rate of 92,93 percent and 99 pupils sitting for the examinations. Dikwindi came sixth with 92,925 percent with 99 pupils sitting for the examination.
Kamba Primary School of Chiredzi came seventh with a 90,91 percent pass rate and 110 pupils sat for the examinations.
Ms Dube said there are many schools in the province that did exceptionally well but their candidates were very few.
“There are many schools, which have scored better results but the candidates who sat for examinations were very few. We have schools like Riverton, Chionja and St Francis with 100 percent pass rate but they had very few candidates,” said Ms Dube.
